Review: Coyote Flaco

One thing I love to eat is mexican food and coming out east it’s been a very difficult task in finding good mexican food. So whenever I hear about a place, I try really hard to try it out so I can see if I’ve found the holy mexican grail of tasty mexican food.

It’s right near the border of west Hartford and Hartford on the south side of New Britain Ave.

Going inside I go up to the bar and ask for the take-out menu. I make a quick glance of the menu and look for the burritos and different type of meat. It’s weird but the burritos here in CT at the Mexican restaurants are all combination plates or specific dinners and it’s hard to get one a la carte. So to my surprise, I saw a burrito express and burrito especial. I order one of both thinking that I could give one to my wife. So I’m waiting for the food and I see the wall of tequila and tempted to order a shot of patron. But I pass.

I go home and look forward to eat my new finds.

I open the bag and the new finds don’t look like burritos but tacos on steroids. I’m getting a little worried but I continue. I taste the pico de gallo and green sauce and to my delight, it was pretty good and spicy. I put it on the so called “burritos” and take my first bite. A little different because the meat wasn’t cut up but tasty. I continue to finish the food and happy about this find. A little different in taste and presentation but I definitely want to go back another time to try an actual plate.

Hey Stephen,
As a fellow SoCal native and once-transplanted northeasterner, I can also attest to the never-ending quest for decent Mexican food. It will be a fruitless search. It’s just not the same, haha. Hmmm hungry… OK, I’m off to get a burrito at El Taurino now.

James-
Thanks for spitting water on the little fire of hope I had in finding great mexican food.
